Becoming a mother is a change that can be a challenging adventure. Northview Church’s Fishers Campus offers a way for mothers to connect and benchmark off each other during this new stage of life.

Northview attender Erin Sanborn, a mom looking for free activities to take her kids to during the week, was running out of hope. Everything in Hamilton County seemed to cost money or was difficult to get to. That’s when she came up the idea to host a mom and kids group. After all, it takes a village!

Little Fish was created with the idea of having free activities for kids to come play and a chance for new moms to connect.

Little Fish is open to any moms in the area, even if they don’t attend Northview. It’s an opportunity to fellowship with other moms and let the kids run free in a kid zone!

Jeanne Smith, Fishers Campus Northview Kids Director, thought the Little Fish idea was awesome. “Many times, moms of young children feel very isolated. I always think about how the days can seem long when you are home with little ones, even though the years go by fast,” Smith says.

Under the coordination of Sanborn and Smith, the program consists of about 10 minutes of Bible stories and songs, then just play time. Sanborn says it’s more important for the kids to “just be kids” while playing together and not have a set minute-to-minute structure. It also allows the moms time to talk and enjoy fellowship.

“Little Fish is a great way for moms to connect with other moms to pray for each other and have a sweet activity together with their little ones. I have seen the moms exchange phone numbers so they can pray and connect outside the group time,” Smith says.

“Also, we have had some moms attend who do not come to Northview. So, it has become an outreach in the community as well,” Smith says.

Sanborn says that Little Fish is a great time for the kids, but also a pure joy for the moms. It’s a time to learn from other moms and the everyday life challenges they have in common.

Try out the free Little Fish program at the Northview Fishers Campus every other Tuesday from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. The next Little Fish will meet Tuesday, March 20. No registration is required. For more information, click here.
